CadCow

Project Management & UI/UX Design

Overview

Between the years of 2021 and 2023, I led the Web4You team in developing CadCow Portal, a specialized marketplace connecting professionals in the Architecture, Interior Design, and Engineering industries with firms seeking their expertise. Our objective was to create a platform that facilitates remote and hybrid collaborations, offering a more segmented alternative to broader freelance marketplaces like Upwork.

Client Requirements

& Our Implementation

  • Marketplace for Industry Professionals: Developed a user-friendly platform where clients can explore and connect with professionals in specific industries.
  • Flexible Subscription Models: On-Demand Subscription (hourly usage billed at the end of the month) & Prepaid Packages (Options ranging from 30 to 120 hours)
  • Client Account Management: Tools for managing invoices, monitoring professional usage, and overseeing subscriptions.
  • Rendering Module: A feature allowing clients to place rendering orders submitted to professionals with specialized CGI artist access.
  • Professional Account Features: Enable professionals to: manage public profiles and portfolios, log time against subscriptions, submit payout requests via Stripe Connect for fast payments, manage payout invoices and view profile visitor statistics.
  • Admin Tools: Oversight capabilities for all subscriptions with the ability to make adjustments as needed.
  • Dual Stripe Integration: Incorporate two separate Stripe accounts to handle transactions in CAD and USD, keeping operations distinct based on professional locations.
  • Custom Pricing System: Transition from standard pricing based on experience to allowing custom pricing for individual professionals.

Challenges & Solutions

Absence of Design Files and Limited Scope: The client did not have any design files and provided a limited scope of work.

  • Solution: I created a comprehensive scope and all design files from scratch using Figma. This allowed us to visualize the project effectively and align the technical team with the client’s vision before jumping into the development.

Dual Currency and Payment Processing: Integrating two Stripe accounts to manage CAD and USD transactions while ensuring seamless operation was something that was not available in Stripe’s documentation.

  • Solution: My team and I developed a custom payment processing system that automatically directed transactions to the appropriate Stripe account based on the professional’s location, ensuring compliance and efficiency.

Complex Subscription Models: Introducing both On-Demand and prepaid subscriptions required a robust system to handle diverse billing cycles and usage tracking.

  • Solution: We designed a flexible subscription management system that accurately tracked usage, handled billing, and provided clear reporting to users.

My Role in the Project

Project Management

I was responsible for overseeing the project from start to finish, ensuring that all milestones were met on time and aligning the development team with the client’s expectations.

UI/UX Design

I designed the user interface and user experience, focusing on creating an intuitive and accessible platform. This involved prototyping, user testing, and adjusting designs based on feedback to ensure ease of use and functionality.

Team Leadership

I facilitated communication between the development team and ALT Labor Solutions to clarify requirements, gather feedback, and make necessary adjustments throughout the project.

Client Collaboration

Engaged with the client to gather insights and translate them into actionable design and technical specifications. Regularly updated the client and incorporated their feedback throughout the project.

Quality Assurance

Conducted thorough testing to ensure the platform met all specifications and quality standards, incorporating user feedback for continuous improvement.

My Planning and Design Expertise

On the CadCow project, I took charge of creating the platform’s design and scope from scratch, as the client had no pre-existing files or detailed requirements. Using Figma, I developed a comprehensive user-centered design that ensured clarity, functionality, and scalability for all users: clients, professionals, and administrators.

Key Contributions:

  • Scope Creation: Translated the client’s goals into a detailed, actionable plan for development.
  • User-Centered Design: Designed an intuitive and visually cohesive interface for seamless navigation.
  • Workflow Mapping: Created detailed user flows and prototypes to optimize interactions between platform roles.
  • Scalable Components: Developed reusable UI elements to maintain consistency and ease future updates.
  • Prototypes: Built functional prototypes to gather feedback early, reducing development revisions.
