Challenges and Solutions

Outdated Website and Hosting: The client’s website was outdated (from the early 2000s) and hosted on an expensive old Windows server. The technology used made migration impossible, requiring redevelopment from scratch.

  • Solution: I developed a new, modern website from scratch using current WordPress technologies (ease of backend management for the client) and migrated it to a cost-effective, scalable hosting solution, reducing expenses and improving performance.

Inconsistent Product Images and Branding: Product images were low-resolution (150×150 pixels) and inconsistent. Colours and typography did not align with the new client logo and branding.

  • Solution: I edited and updated all product images (provided by the client) to be high-resolution and consistent in design. Updated colours and typography to match the new branding, enhancing visual appeal.

Inefficient Product Management: The backend was difficult to manage, requiring a developer to add, remove, or modify products.

  • Solution: I integrated WooCommerce and configured it as a catalogue, allowing the client to manage products easily. This setup also prepared the site for future e-commerce functionality without needing another redevelopment.

Disorganized Product Listings: Products were disorganized, and similar items of different sizes were listed as separate products, cluttering the catalogue.

  • Solution: I organized products logically by combining similar items into variations instead of separate products (eg. products with a variable size), streamlining the catalogue and improving user navigation.

I sweetened the design!

I transformed Sweet N Fun’s product pages from a sparse and uninformative layout into a detailed, functional, and visually engaging design. The old design lacked essential information and featured an ineffective “Email a Friend” button that provided no value to the business. The new design focuses on delivering clear product details, a visually appealing layout, and a practical “Add to Quote” feature, aligning with the business goal of streamlining quote requests and enhancing the user experience.

I enhanced the catalogue!

I redesigned Sweet N Fun’s category catalogues to shift from a basic and uninspiring layout to a modern and engaging design. The old catalogue lacked interactivity and detailed product insights, limiting user engagement. The new design introduces a polished interface with vibrant visuals, clear product categorization, and intuitive “Add to Quote” and “Quick Preview” features, streamlining the browsing and quotation process.
