Westcoast Moulding

Website redesign

Overview

I collaborated with West Coast Moulding & Millwork, a leading supplier in the building materials industry, to transform their outdated website into a dynamic e-commerce platform. The project aimed to significantly enhance the user experience, streamline operational workflows, and expand their product offerings to include over 1000 products across 32 categories.

Challenges and Solutions

Limited Product Display: The original site showcased only 50 products, severely limiting their online market presence.

  • Solution: I expanded the product display capabilities to feature over 1000 products, incorporating engaging and easy-to-navigate e-commerce pages for each category (learning their internal operations was a key to effective storefront design).

Need for Dual Sales System:  The old website featured lengthy and confusing forms solely for quotations, which complicated the process for customers seeking to submit quote requests or place orders.

  • Solution:  I introduced a Woocommerce-based dual sales system that effectively supports both direct online purchases and quote requests. This system allows customers to either buy standard products directly from the website or submit custom requests, ensuring a versatile and user-friendly shopping experience.

Inefficient Navigation: A confusing sitemap made it difficult for customers to find products, negatively impacting user experience.

  • Solution: I redesigned the site architecture to improve navigation, making it easier for customers to find what they need quickly and efficiently.

Disconnected Inventory Systems: Separate systems for operation and stock teams led to miscommunications about stock levels.

  • Solution: Integrated WooCommerce with existing systems to streamline inventory management, allowing for real-time stock updates to both the sales team and customers.

Lack of Membership Features: There was no system to reward loyal customers with discounts or exclusive access to products.

  • Solution: Implemented a membership system that offers discounts and exclusive access to certain products, enhancing customer loyalty and engagement.

My Role in the Project

Project Management

Oversaw the project timeline, managed resources, and ensured all milestones were met on time. Coordinated directly with the client to align project outcomes with their strategic goals.

E-commerce Development

Developed a robust e-commerce platform, ensuring seamless integration with the existing inventory management system. This included setting up product categories, configuring payment gateways, and enabling secure transactions to support a high volume of product listings.

Product Organization

Immersed myself in West Coast Moulding & Millwork’s organizational workflows to gather detailed product information. Organized over 1000 products into 32 categories, optimized images for web use, and structured the online store for easy navigation.

UI/UX Design

Crafted a user-centric design, focusing on aesthetic appeal and functionality. Created wireframes, selected colour schemes, and developed a layout that enhances the user’s journey through the site.

Responsive Design Implementation

Ensured the website’s optimal performance on various devices by implementing a responsive design, crucial for providing a seamless experience for users on desktops, tablets, and smartphones.

SEO Optimization

Optimized the website for search engines to improve visibility and attract more traffic. Integrated SEO best practices into the development process, including proper use of HTML tags, enhancing site speed, and ensuring content was optimized for target keywords.

Client Training

Provided post-launch training to the West Coast team on managing the website, updating content, and understanding analytics to maintain the site effectively.

I Organized It!

Before the redesign, West Coast Moulding & Millwork’s product pages were cluttered and hard to navigate. We revamped these into a streamlined, easy-to-navigate layout with high-quality images and clear categorizations, significantly enhancing user experience and satisfaction.

I Improved It!

I transformed the Stair Division section on the website into a dynamic resource hub. High-resolution images of stair production showcase the craftsmanship, while new downloadable guides on stair options provide essential information, enhancing both aesthetics and functionality.

I Simplified It!

I redesigned the home page of the website by replacing a text-heavy layout with a clean, visually captivating hero section. This simplified navigation enhances the user experience, making it easier for visitors to access and engage with the site’s content.
